Cable Cleat Selector

The cleat selector is intended to be used by persons with adequate technical knowledge, and as a guidance tool for preliminary selection of cable cleats only. In all circumstances it remains the user’s responsibility to ensure that any product selected is suitable for its technical requirements and will work in relation to the user’s specific application. Please don’t hesitate to contact our engineering team, to assist with your specific requirements, or if you have requirements outside the calculator scope.

? Single means cables in a flat configuration. Trefoil means 3 cables inside one cable cleat (Assuming that they make up a three-phase system).
? Input the outer diameter of your cable, this will be used to recommend the cable cleat size.

Cable cleat tolerances
SmartCleat NG single: ±2mm
SmartCleat NG trefoil: ±1.5mm
SmartCleat+ single: ±3mm
SmartCleat+ trefoil: ±2mm
Non-metallic SmartCleats: Cable diameter range is given in the product name (e.g. SCLT-1xØ15-20 GFP/EPDM).
mm
? Based on your input, the selector will recommend the quantity of products to order.
m
? Input how many short circuits the cable cleats should be rated for. Tested for one short circuit or tested for two consecutive short circuits (According to IEC 61914:2021).
? Use prospective max short-circuit peak current as calculated for the actual part of the electrical network. If not available, calculations to determine it must be performed. No safety margin is applied, therefore it is recommended that the peak current calculation should consider any safety margin required. The tool will use this data to recommend installation distance and establish whether the cleat will be able to restrain the cables in a short-circuit event.
kA
? Input the centre-centre distance between cables (not relevant for trefoil configuration as the distance will be equal to the cable diameter). This input together with the peak short-circuit current is used to estimate the electromechanical force.
? Width of the support. Specified to check that the installation can fit.
? Width of the support. Specified to check that the installation can fit.
? Width of the support. Specified to check that the installation can fit.
? Vertical and horizontal installations must be considered separately. I.e., if a project consists of both horizontal and vertical segments, the cases have to be evaluated separately.

General Comments

SS Cable Cleats installed on Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG) support in the presence of electrolytes, will create a galvanic cell due to the galvanic difference. This however is considered generally insignificant due to the volume differential where the larger anode part (the support) is significantly larger than the smaller cathode (cable cleat).

One securing plate in each end is added as best practice for trefoils. Its relevance must be considered case by case. The purpose of the securing plate is primarily to strengthen the rungs.

Results

Øglænd System are quite unique in testing the cable cleats together with our recommended cable management support as a complete system. This delivers the reassurance that the individual parts of the system are complementary and designed with system methodology. Most cable cleat suppliers are unable to offer such a complete system, and often cannot provide accurate details about forces and effects of their cleats on the supporting system.
The recommendations shown are based on this full system approach, tested, calculated and certified according to the international IEC 61914: 2021 standard and based on the highest inputs given.
