Expansion splice connectors are used to prevent steel cable ladders from bending and twisting due to expansion caused by fluctuation in air temperature. Stainless steel expands 1.6 mm per 100 m per degree C. The couplers are used mainly in tunnels where the temperature changes are significant and the length of the cable run makes the movement considerable. The cable ladders must be supported in a way that allows movement.
